Ten Steps to the Gallows Ten Steps to the Gallows chronicles the history of the Gallows in Newfoundland. It is a history that is divided into two eras, public executions and private executions. Where possible, each story follows the criminal from the crime through the attest and trial, the verdict, the imprisonment, the days leading up to the execution and the execution. Through these stories, the reader gains an insight into the daily lives of by-gone eras, and awareness as to how our justice system has evolved over the past few centuries.
