It continues with the personal accounts of Newfoundlanders who describe in their own words their adventures, experiences and day-to-day life in the outports and rural areas of Newfoundland and Labrador. Anecdotes of fishermen, sealers and whalers are included along with descriptions of ornithologists, librarians, professors, artists and other professionals who live and work in Newfoundland. What emerges from the anecdotes is a picture of Newfoundland and Labrador that is at first charming, sentimental, even nostalgic, but reveals a grim, sad picture of a society that has always struggled to survive.
